Herd Size Reports

Ranch Vision's Herd Size reports show how livestock numbers are projected to change over the five-year forecast. Use the Breeding Herd reports for breeding-animal totals and the Inventory reports for class-level livestock inventory.

 Breeding Herd Reports

The Breeding Herd reports project the total number of breeding animals in the cow-calf, ewe-lamb, and doe-kid enterprises. Separate reports are provided for cattle, sheep, and goats.

Year 1 reflects the breeding-herd head count on the inventory date. Each subsequent year shows the projected head count on the same date at annual intervals.

Breeding cattle include bulls, mature cows, H2s, H1s, and H0s. Breeding sheep include rams, mature ewes, E2s, E1s, and E0s. Breeding goats include bucks, mature does, D2s, D1s, and D0s.

Breeding herds are particularly important because they produce the ranch's future calves, lambs, and kids. These projections show whether the current management plan is expected to increase, decrease, or maintain breeding-herd size over time.

How to use it: Use these reports to identify projected changes in breeding-herd size early enough to make management adjustments and avoid undesired increases or decreases.

Inventory Reports

The Inventory reports show the projected number of animals in each livestock class for cattle, sheep, and goats.

Year 1 reflects the head count on the inventory date. Years 2 through 5 show the projected head count for each class on that same date at annual intervals.

Unlike the Breeding Herd reports, which summarize breeding animals, the Inventory reports provide class-level detail across the livestock inventory, including breeding animals and modeled stocker or feeder classes.

How to use it: Use these reports to understand how individual livestock classes are expected to change over time and to check whether the projected inventory matches the herd or flock structure you intend to operate.
