Purchase Reports
Ranch Vision provides three Purchase reports that answer different questions about projected livestock purchases: how much is projected to be spent, what livestock classes are projected to be purchased, and when the cash is projected to leave the business.
Annual Purchases
The Annual Purchases report shows the total amount projected to be spent on livestock purchases in each of the next five years, beginning on the inventory date. The chart separates projected purchases by species and also shows the total.
How to use it: Use this report for a high-level view of future livestock purchasing requirements and to identify years in which livestock purchases may require more capital.
Detailed Purchases
The Detailed Purchases reports provide a class-by-class breakdown of projected livestock purchases for each of the next five years. Separate reports are available for cattle, sheep, and goats.
The report shows the projected purchase amount for each applicable livestock class in each year.
How to use it: Use these reports when you need to understand what is driving the total shown in Annual Purchases - for example, whether projected spending is associated with breeding animals, stockers, feeders, or another livestock class.
Purchases Outflow
The Purchases Outflow report shows when projected livestock-purchase cash expenditures occur during the 12 months following the inventory date.
How to use it: Annual Purchases tells you how much is projected to be spent; Purchases Outflow shows when that cash is projected to leave the business. Compare the purchasing schedule with expected cash inflows to identify potential liquidity pressure. If a shortage is projected, Ranch Vision can be used to test changes to the timing or frequency of purchases. Other management alternatives may include greater reliance on ranch-raised replacements, cooperative trades of breeding males, or the use of credit.
